Generic Positive Sequence Representation of Grid Forming Behavior and its Application in an Island System Case Study

The development and subsequent use of any generic model comes with an associated query of accuracy of the model's response in comparison to the response observed from actual equipment. Here, appropriate parameterization of these models is extremely crucial. With development of new inverter control algorithms, it is unknown as to whether the suite of generic models can be applied to study future power networks. The newly developed positive sequence REGC_C generic converter model has been specifically developed for use in low short circuit environments and as result, a natural extension can be made to utilize this model in a 100^% inverter scenario. In this paper, a validation of the dynamic behavior of this newly developed REGC_C model operating in grid mode will be shown along with a discussion of a case study on an island power network with no synchronous machines.
