Analytical properties of SAW phase velocity function from algebraic and thermodynamic points of view

SAW phase velocity V is shown to be the algebraic function of the effective elastic moduli and density of the deformed monocrystalline waveguide material. From thermodynamic viewpoint V is a function of local thermodynamic parameters of the near-surface layer of waveguide and its crystallographic orientation. The exact differential of this function is represented analytically by introducing tensor W/sub ijkl/ of partial derivatives of V with respect to the elastic moduli. Algebraic properties of W/sub ijkl/ are studied to reduce number of its independent components. W/sub ijkl/ dependence on interatomic forces parameters is discussed for more then 60 waveguide materials.
