Effect of Speed Asymmetry on Power and Force Parameters of Rolling Mill Electric Drives

The paper is devoted to features of operation of rolling mill main drives during asymmetric rolling. The authors reviewed papers, describing effect of speed asymmetry on power and force parameters of drives of continuous hot and cold rolling mills. There is a need for preliminary calculations of maximum acceptable loads to choose an optimum asymmetry factor and ensure a normal operation mode of the drive. Key results of laboratory and industrial experiments on asymmetric rolling on various facilities are described in brief. Special attention is given in this paper to processing and analyzing data obtained during the industrial experiment conducted on continuous five-stand mill 630 with speed asymmetry. The paper presents data on an operation mode of the main drives of such mill during symmetric and asymmetric rolling, as well as some calculated electrical, power and force parameters. The results were compared and showed a significant decrease in forces, total torques and rolling power, and electricity consumption during speed asymmetry. The authors made conclusions and suggested areas of further studies on this field.
