Age Upon Decisions for Low-latency Services in Internet of Energy Systems

Future Internet of energy systems have high requirements for the reliability and the timeliness to carry the sensed information of the infrastructure and grid. To support the low-latency service of sensing data collection and decision making for the Internet of energy systems, we consider a update-and-decide wireless network which operates with finite blocklength (FBL) codes in this work. A retransmission policy is considered aiming at an efficient reliability improvement on the received updates, where the transmission is terminated until a successful decoding. On the other hand, the timeliness of information used for decision at decision epochs is characterized by using age upon decisions (AuD). The closed-form expression of the average AuD is derived according to the First-come-First-served (FCFS) policy. In particular, we prove that the value of average AuD is large, in case of the blocklength being long and the packet arrival rate being low. Our analytical model is confirmed by Monte Carlo simulations.
