A Review of 5G-Advanced Service and System Aspects Standardization in 3GPP

This paper first introduces 3GPP and the objectives and significance of 5G-Advanced in the evolution of the 5G network, and then discusses the important role of system architecture and service requirements in the network evolution. Furthermore, the standardization process of 5G-Advanced Rel-18 SA2 and Rel-19 SA1 is elaborated based on the standardization work experience of the authors. After that, the approved Rel-18 SA2 and Rel-19 SA1 study items are classified and analyzed, and the corresponding relationship between the Rel-18 system architecture work and Rel-18 service requirements is given. Finally, suggestions and outlooks for the subsequent 5G-Advanced SA standardization work are provided.
