All-optical pattern recognition using a segmented semiconductor optical amplifier

A technique for high-speed, all-optical pattern recognition based on the cross-correlation of an optical test pattern with a reference pattern stored in a segmented SOA is presented. Cross-correlation between 4-bit patterns at 85 Gbit/s is demonstrated.
