Control and Analysis of SEPIC Topology based Boost DC-DC Converter with High Gain for Fuel Cell Fed Electric Vehicle Driving System

Among the various renewable energy (RE) resources, fuel cell (FC) sources are most widely used in electric vehicles (EVs) because unlike solar and wind energy, they can generate electricity continuously and they have higher efficiency, enhanced environmental quality and high reliability. In fuel cell electric vehicle driving systems (FCEVDs), the DC- DC converters are used to boost the FC voltage and also regulate the DC-link voltage. Among various DC-DC converters, SEPIC converters are widely used in FCEVDs due to their low input current ripple, low electromagnetic interference and high voltage gain, which make them an excellent converter for interfacing the FC with the DC-link bus in FCEV. This paper reported the implementation study and the control of a SEPIC topology based boost DC-DC converter with high gain output integrated with FCEVDS. This high gain DC-DC converter is further implemented for EV on-board charging and is controlled by using a PI controller to provide smooth charging.
