Design of a Novel Compact L-slotted Monopole Antenna for 5G Applications in sub-6 GHz Band

This article presents a novel symmetrical Lslotted compact microstrip antenna for sub-6 GHz band 5G wireless communication applications. It consists of a 50-ohm microstrip feedline, an L-shaped patch radiator, and a defected ground plane with two symmetrical stubs. A pair of L-shaped slots are etched on a radiating patch to enhance the operating bandwidth. Two symmetrical stubs are added to the ground plane to enhance impedance matching. . The proposed antenna offers a wider impedance bandwidth of 3.86 GHz (3.22 GHz – 7.08 GHz) with a fractional bandwidth (FBW) of 74.96%. The FEM-based Ansys HFSS tool is used to simulate the antenna. The antenna has stable radiation patterns over the -10 dB bandwidth, high efficiency (95%), and a maximum gain of 4.4 dB. This antenna can effectively work for n77, n78, n79, Wi-Fi-5, V2X/, and Wi-Fi-6 bands for 5G applications in the sub-6 GHz band.
