Seamless Time Sensitive Handover Scheme Based on CoMP-JT for 5G-Enabled Autonomous Driving

The joint support of 5th Generation (5G) technology and Time-Sensitive Networking (TSN) promotes the development of autonomous driving. Though it ensures low latency and jitter for time-sensitive data transmission, the safety of autonomous driving still faces the challenge, i.e. handover interruption. 3GPP Rel. 16 has proposed some optimization schemes to meet the seamless handover demands of Ultra-Reliable Low Latency Communication (URLLC) services. However, they face the problems of performance and resource utilization. This paper designs an improved seamless handover scheme based on coordinated multi-point joint transmission (CoMP-JT) technology to improve the reliability of time-sensitive data transmission and reduce handover interruption time. The modified Proximal Policy Optimization (PPO) algorithm with centralized policy and distributed execution framework is used for making a better connection strategy by comprehensively evaluating the performance of base stations according to reference signal received power (RSRP), latency and available bandwidth. The simulation results demonstrate that the proposed seamless handover scheme can achieve better performance compared with traditional hard handover method. It completely reduces the handover interruption time to 0 under good channel state after training.
