Design and Development of a WSN for Water Quality Monitoring System of Shrimp Aquaculture

Aquaculture is one of the most significant activities in Surigao City’s coastal region. The amount of money they make through aquaculture is the farmer’s income. The consistency of the water has a significant impact on the growth and production of marine organisms. Any changes in water quality put these species in jeopardy and reduce yield. As a result, it is essential to track water quality at regular intervals and issue warnings to aquaculture farmers to take preventative measures promptly. This study presents a low-cost Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) technology to monitor the water quality of shrimp aquaculture ponds in Brgy. Sabang, Surigao City. This study also shows the system design and implementation of a wireless sensor network between the sink node and sensor nodes to cover the whole area of a shrimp aquaculture farm efficiently. According to the study’s findings, the prototype performs effectively and it has collected data from its three sensor nodes both in simulation and in the field setting. It shows the collected data on the TFT Pi display of the system by using three different graphs. The sensor and sink nodes communicate efficiently through their HC-12 long-range Bluetooth communication modules. In future research, rather than using a low-cost sensor, a high-quality sensor should be used because a low-cost sensor may cause the measurement to become less accurate in a short amount of time.
