Abstract:

Quantitative genetics is the field of research that links the genetic (DNA) information (genotype) to the physical traits (phenotype), with the applications in human and livestock populations. While the majority of research, and tools, have been focused on cellular DNA where, as the result of the recombination, the inheritance is not straightforward, a distinct approach must be used with mitochondrial DNA where the inheritance is conserved in maternal line. We present a new version of the Magellan software [1] used for the analysis of the influence of gene polymorphism on quantitative traits based on the single gender lineage in pedigrees. While the main target of usage are mitogenome polymorphism and maternal lineages, the methods can be applied to Y-chromosome polymorphism and paternal lineages. The update is the answer to user feedback and it consists of improvement in several existing features, and the addition of some new ones. This has resulted in overall increase in software efficiency and user friendliness. The address of the Magellan software page is https://github.com/sristov/magellan.
