Automatic Attendance Marker Using Beacon technology

As a part of the academic discipline, marking the attendance of students is routine work for a teacher engaging the class. It is observed that the usual method of taking attendance in a classroom by the teacher is either through oral means or the students physically signing their name in an attendance record sheet. Both of these methods are manual and tedious task considering the limited timing of a class. In order to overcome such a hassle an application that automatically detects the presence of the students through their own smartphone with a unique ID that would be registered prior in the database of the application is proposed in this work. The aim of this work is to design a Beacon based attendance system application that can be easily accessed by the teacher and students which would help to avoid manually maintaining the registry book. The development of the complete attendance management system and collection of attendance data for a class is presented in this paper. It is concluded that this system is able to handle the attendance of students accurately, securely, and the database created can be retrieved successfully helping the teacher to utilize the entire duration of the class effectively.
