Hazard, Label, and Volatile Organic Compound Free Impregnation Resin for Rotating Machines

Conventional reactive diluents such as styrene, acrylates, and methacrylates which have been used to dilute unsaturated polyester resins are known to have different hazard, toxic levels. Special care and alert need to be taken when handling resins diluted with these monomers. A developed unsaturated monomer that has been tested to have no volatile organic compounds (VOC), hazardous, toxic, or sensitizing properties.The developed monomer was used to dilute unsaturated polyester base resins resulting in a hazard, label, and VOC free Class B insulating system. This paper further studies the electrical, thermal, mechanical, and chemical resistance properties of the final insulating resin.
