A Study on the Parameters of Barrier-free Elevator Control Panel and the Optimization Strategy for the Visually Impaired

In this modern age of rapid technological advancement, the planning and design of public spaces and building facilities should accommodate the needs of persons with disabilities and inability to perform activities of daily living, thus achieving “barrier-free” design. Taking the visually impaired as the research object, in this paper, the preferences of the visually impaired and the sighted for parameters of the barrier-free elevator control panel, such as raised height, radius and angle of inclination are studied through literature review, interview, experiment and analysis, and the strategy for optimizing elevator control panels is proposed based on the habits of using elevator control panels by the visually impaired and the sighted generalized from interviews and experiments, with the aim to achieve “barrier-free” use of elevators by the visually impaired and the sighted.
