The Integrated Design of Millimeter Wave Insert Fed Circular Microstrip Patch Antenna and Radome

An integrated design method of millimeter wave (MMW) insert fed circular microstrip patch antenna and radome is proposed to solve the problem of deteriorating orientation distortion and low sensitivity of the system. Firstly, the parameters of the circular microstrip patch antenna are calculated based on the cavity model theory. Then the shape of the radome is designed by using the theory of single-layer half-wave radome. Finally, the integrated modeling and optimization design of the Radome and the antenna is carried out by using the 3D full-wave electromagnetic simulation software HFSS, the integrated design of Ka Band insert fed millimeter wave circular microstrip patch antenna and Radome is realized. The simulation results show that the integrated design of the single-layer half-wave Radome and the Ka-band insert fedmillimeter circular microstrip patch antenna has resonant operating frequency of 34.5 GHz, gain of 6.69 dB, E-plane beam width is 116°, H-plane beam width is 100°, and when the thickness of the radome is half-wave thickness and the height is higher than half-wave length, the radome has the least effect on the return loss and antenna pattern.
