Potato Plant Disease Classification Through Deep Learning

Every year a lot of potato crop is destroyed due to various diseases, blight being one of them with affects the leaves of the plant leading them to rot and wither away which further leads to the plant being destroyed as the photosynthesis process is disturbed. This can lead to huge losses to the farmers if the widespread effect of this disease. With the rise of Deep Learning & Artificial Intelligence in the field of agriculture blight can be identified in the potato leaves which can help in reducing the damages if caught early. Various models have been made in the past and were proposed for detecting diseases in several plants. In this paper, a model has been trained and validated and uses CNN(Convolutional Neural Network) to identify and extract the relevant information from the dataset and use it to determine if the potato leaf is healthy, has late blight or early blight. This model achieved an accuracy of 99.84% from the test dataset that was used.
