A Conceptual Model on Integration of Technology Acceptance Model on Smart Home Healthcare System among Elderly

Aging people has different assistance needs in their day to day lives and their capabilities in independent living at home could vary across individuals. A smart home that integrates healthcare support could be an appropriate approach in improving their self-functional capability and living environment. Smart home healthcare system promises to deliver effective home care to the meet the needs of the elderly while enhancing their quality of life and to promote independent living. Remotely controllable technology made smart home possible in assisting the demands of the elderly. However, older people are generally more conservative in accepting such disruptive technology. Therefore, this study seeks to discover how seniors are accepting the concept of smart home healthcare system by integrating and analyzing a proposed conceptual framework that is extended from the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM). This paper proposed a conceptual model that test both the technological and human factors in influencing the elderly’s behavioral intention in accepting the smart home healthcare technology.
