Comparative Analysis of Grid-Connected PV System Using Flyback Converter

Among all renewable energy sources, photovoltaic (PV) conversion is one of the most popular research disciplines. In many levels of power conversion, power electronic converters play a vital role. The harvesting of solar energy utilizing an interleaved flyback converter with an isolated single-phase grid integration is presented in this study. The interleaved topology leads to enhanced power level, current ripple reduction, fewer passive component requirements, and reduced switching stress. The overall system has been designed in a two-stage structure: DC-DC power conversion by three-interleaved flyback converters and DC-AC conversion using a single-phase full-bridge inverter. The DC-DC stage is controlled using two conventional maximum power point tracking (MPPT) algorithms: perturb and observe (PO) and incremental conductance (INC) methods whereas a sinusoidal pulse width modulation is used to control the DC-AC stage. A comparative analysis of the two different MPPT algorithms has been presented considering various performance indices such as dynamic performance, tracking performance, total harmonic distortion (THD) in grid current as well as grid synchronization using a phase-locked loop (PLL). The grid-connected PV system model is developed in MATLAB-Simulink and performance is analyzed through simulation results.
