Using smart devices for fall detection: algorithms, systems and applications

Falling is often an unexpected event that can affect the health and safety of persons and objects. Fall detection algorithms have been designed to take advantage of the multitude of smart devices that incorporate sensors capable of detecting a fall event. This is an overview paper that investigates the main components of a fall detection system implemented in the current literature and presents a test Android application for sensor data collection with the purpose of further implementing and testing fall detection algorithms.
