Abstract:

This paper proposes a theoretical investigation into radio-over-fiber (ROF) system with 36-tuple frequency optical millimeter-wave (MMW) generation using a dual-parallel Mach-Zehnder modulator (DPMZM) and a semiconductor optical amplifier (SOA), with possible application in 36-tuple MMW generation. In our scheme, ± 6 th order sidebands with the frequency interval of 12 \mathrm{f}_{\mathrm{R}\mathrm{F}} is produced after DPMZM, then it go through the FWM in SOA and filtering, leading to the final generation of the 36-tuple frequency MMW signal. Based on the scheme, 180GHz MMW signal is generated from a 5GHz microwave-driven signal. Two modulation formats modulate the 2.5Gbit/s NRZ signal, and the effect of SOA's injection current on the sideband ratio (SR) and the bit error rate (BER) performance is studied.
