Application of Voltage Control Techniques in South Western Libyan Network to Enhance Voltage Stability with Future Load Forecasting

this paper is focused on studying the voltage control method in Western South Libyan network (Sabha). The western-south region of Libya extends electrically from the Khoms in North to Aweanat in South which is known as Sabha network that works on 220 kV and there is a plan underway to develop the 400 kV network. Due to harsh weather conditions in this mostly desert region which increase power demand for air-condition systems as well as the extensive use of water pumps for agriculture, a high inductive load is yielded. Given this type of inductive load and the long distance that separate the load from the main power generation plants in the North, the phenomenon of voltage collapse occurs especially during peak load which is currently estimated to about 600 MW. The study considered herein is concerned with obtaining practical solutions to avoid the occurrence of this problem in the future by proposing three resolutions. First by the completion of projects such as upgrading the voltage level of the transmission system to 400 kV; secondly, by localizing the Ubari station with 600MW, and thirdly, by the injection of Static Var Compensator in the 220 kV Sabha bus and taking into account the load growth in the region, which increases annually by the range of 7% 10%. The NEPLAN software is utilized with all the data that available from GECOL to evaluate these different scenarios.
