Connectivity-Based Dissemination Protocol for VANET

The dissemination protocol is a very important design aspect of Vehicular Networks (VANETs). In this paper, Connectivity Based Dissemination Protocol (CBDP) is presented to meet the Quality of Service (QoS) requirements of different application classes in VANET. The protocol is deployed on an underlying control scheme for which connectivity measures have been analyzed for both Vehicle to Vehicle (V2V) and Vehicle to Infrastructure (V2I) communication. The fundamental characteristics of the proposed CBDP are: the protocol leads to efficient utilization of frequency spectrum and this alleviates the lack of reliability of IEEE 802.11p communication standard, additionally the protocol prevents the well-known hidden terminal issue. Extensive analytical and simulation results proved the stability of the developed underlying scheme and the effectiveness of the CBDP protocol. Moreover, a simulation comparison is carried out, revealing that CBDP outperforms the traditional Information-rich ORP protocol when employed in the vehicular environment.
