A Christ Cross Slotted Antenna for 5G mm Waves Applications

A miniaturized novel Christ Cross slotted antenna for 5G mm wave wireless communications is presented in this research paper. This compact, wideband antenna was created on a low-cost flame retardant (FR-4) with a dielectric permittivity (ε
r
) of 4.4, a tan δ value of 0.02, and a thickness (h) of 0.8mm. The calculated dimensions of an antenna are 7 x 7 x 0.8 mm3. It comprises copper radiating patch and a full ground plane. The antenna is made up of Christ cross slot in the middle of the patch that has been tuned for wideband performance. The proposed antenna is excited through the quarter-wave transformer-supported insert feed. The computed impedance bandwidth covers the frequency range of 26.7 to 29.2 GHz at <-10 dB. At 27.94 GHz, the antenna presented in the research has a low reflection coefficient (Γ) of -24.13 dB, total gain (G) of 6.4 dB, and a radiation efficiency of 82%, 85% at 28 GHz and 31 GHz frequencies respectively. The presented antenna is simulated using Ansys HFSS.
