Abstract:

Wireless propagation channels affected by blocking objects both static as well as dynamic impact the resultant signal quality. The role of the human in this aspect is ambivalent desiring for reliable connections and increased data rates. However, humans being non-transparent to electromagnetic waves obstruct paths between transmitter (TX) and receiver (RX) impacting the channel propagation. Terahertz (THz) spectrum though providing bandwidths of several GHz with corresponding data rates beyond 100 Gb/s is simultaneously highly sensitive to obstacles. In this paper, a realistic 1.80 m 3D male model is employed to study the impact of different human postures on the performance of THz communication systems for in-room environments. For this purpose, inertial measurement units (IMU) are employed to record human kinematics and the acquired data is then embedded into a male digital twin for simulating real joint movements. Moreover, a distributed antenna system (DAS) operating at 300 GHz carrier frequency is introduced to increase the coverage probability in this data fusioned THz ray-tracing approach.
