Improving the Performance of Unified Power Quality Conditioner Using Interval Type 2 Fuzzy Control

One of the most prevalent problems in today's world in power distribution is the development of power systems and modification of power quality. The unified power quality conditioner (UPQC) is being a merge of shunt and also series active power filters (APF) joined by means of a dc bus which is responsible of compensating voltage imbalance and current harmonics. The UPQC shunt active filter serves as an ideal and special current source, inserting extra current into the shunt transformer, while series active filter serves as an ideal voltage source, providing compensatory voltage into a series transformer. In this Article, two different control strategies are developed and implemented for improving imbalance voltage and power quality. The first control strategy was implemented using fuzzy logic control and second control strategy using proportional integral control. Finally, we compare the performance of simulation results in MATLAB software of proposed fuzzy logic control with conventional proportional integral control.
