Enhancement of Voltage Profile/Stability by Optimal Placement of UPFC

In the growing power sector, voltage profile and stability are the two parameters that are most critical. More and more use of inductive loads at the receiving end decreases the power factor and deteriorates the voltage profile of the overall system. When the reactive loading increases the voltage at the receiving end decreases and thus the need of reactive compensation increases. In this paper the weakest buses have been found depending on the loading capability using Fast Voltage Stability Index (FVSI) and Line Stability index (LSI) and then for improving the voltage profile at the weakest buses after increasing loading, UPFC is used and the results are observed. The test systems used are IEEE-14, 30, 57 bus systems and one practical 62 bus Indian Utility system.
