Challenges of Planning with Large Share of Heavy Industry Load in a Remote Distribution Network and Tentative Solutions

Bangladesh is an emerging economy with rising level of industrialization. Most of the industries consume electricity as their major energy source. Steel industry is one of the major energy-intensive industries of Bangladesh. With the projected growth of economy, the steel industry itself is expected to grow by more than 15% which may impose burden on the current power system. Therefore, proper planning is required to meet the future electricity demand as to adequately supply the loads. Planning with a large steel industry imposes certain challenges which are identified in this paper. Tentative solutions to combat the challenges are also discussed. Simulations are done in some stages to visualize the solutions to the problems.
