A Compact Patch Antenna with DGS for 28GHz 5G Millimetre Band Applications

A rectangular shaped microstrip patch antenna has been proposed to operate at 28 GHz band frequency for millimeter wave 5G mobile applications. The proposed antenna has patch size of 1.3 mm X 3 mm fabricated on substrate material FR-4 of thickness, 1.6mm with 4.4 dielectric constant and loss tangent, 0.0025. The proposed antenna has ground of size 6 mm X 8 mm with three different slots to improve bandwidth of antenna. The proposed antenna has return loss of – 17.94 dB at 28.1 GHz and bandwidth of 3.1GHz. The antenna is stimulated using HFSS software. The overall results of antenna show good performance for applications of emerging fifth generation wireless communications.
