Design and Optimization of Headbox Control System for Paper Factory

Paper mills have exhibited a significant contribution in the development of economy of India for last so many years. The process of a good quality paper making is very complex that is accomplished in many stages. The one very vital stage is in this entire process is the headbox. It has been chosen as the topic of research in this paper. There is always a need to have optimum automatic controllers for almost every stage. In this work two very effective control strategies have been used i.e. PID and LQG for developing the control system in MATLAB. Further, the Genetic Algorithm (GA) has been applied to optimize the PID controller parameters.
