Treatment of Simulant Feces Using Microwave Plasma

It is estimated that 40% of the world's population lack adequate sanitation facilities and over 90% of feces generated by them are disposed without treatment, making lakes and rivers polluted [1] . There have been lots of studies employing plasma to the treatment of solid waste [2] . Microwave plasma carries the advantages of compact, lightweight and is suitable for household or small equipment [3] . Considering that human feces compose a median value of 75% H 2 O and of the solid fraction organic material in it makes up over 84%, we divided the treatment process into two steps: first, drying fresh feces by microwave; then, combust dry feces with microwave plasma torch [4] .
