A system of systems approach to smart Building Management: an AI vision for Facility Management

Real estate is a capital economic sector and at the same time is considered as not only a source of pollution but a as well a resource’s consumer. Buildings operations and maintenance is embracing the digital transformation by integrating data from Internet of Things system into a Facility Management process. This paper introduces the concept of this emerging field FM and propose the use of techniques from Artificial Intelligence in order to make smart Building a reality. The underlying concept is to investigate how to integrate systems of systems from a Facility management perspective through data collection and processing in order to optimize the use and the maintenance of buildings and thus reduce pollution and energy consumption. There are many objectives, such as learning the behavior of buildings according to use (operation), predicting breakdowns and investments, controlling energy consumption and finally determining an operating reference system that takes into account the data and usage. Indeed two identical buildings built at the same period by the same companies but with two different occupants, will age differently depending on the use of it.
