Comparative study of PCF background materials for Terahertz Region

This paper compares several background materials of photonic crystal fibers (PCFs), it has a spiral structure with D-shaped air openings in the center. The effective area, confinement loss, birefringence, chromatic dispersion, and effective index are several key features of PCF selected for an efficient study. The modal properties of fiber were investigated. Zeonex, Silica & TOPAS are the background materials chosen for our suggested structure for comparison. According to the numerical findings simulated, the TOPAS-based PCF at 1.3 THz is shown to have the lower value of dispersion and containment loss, 0.3694 ±0.05 ps/THz/cm and 0.38×10
^-7
dB/m respectively. Optical properties of Zeonex based spiral PCF are intermediate between Silica based and TOPAS based spiral PCF. Zeonex based spiral PCF is appropriate for being used as dispersion flattened fiber and TOPAS based spiral PCF is suitable for higher confinement and birefringence.
