Techno-Economic Feasibility Analysis of Enhancing Photovoltaic Lighting Systems with Intelligent Controllers

Applying clean and renewable energy fed devices and technologies changed into a vital necessity in the world. PV lighting systems are one of the most well-known applications of renewable energies, in cities and public places. However, short life span of battery in conventional PV lighting systems is a main drawback. Promoting these systems to IoT intelligent charge controller implies many technical advantages, including programmable lighting profile during night and supplying illumination until morning, lengthening device life span, especially batteries, decrease extra CapEx for establishing central emergency lighting system. In this paper, techno-economic analysis of promoting 122 light poles in a public park in Mashhad is performed. Results showed that economical indices prove the profitability of the project, with 63.7 % IRR, 3.15-year payback period and 85.3 million Rial NPV.
