Analytical Modeling and Electrical Equivalent Circuit Extraction for a Flux Switching PM Motor for EVs

Flux switching permanent magnet motor (FSPMM) is a competitive candidate for high torque density and high-speed capability applications. Due to the high non-linear structure, generally, finite element analysis (FEA) is applied to the motor structure to calculate the electromagnetic performance of the FSPMM. The time-consuming behavior of this method leads to the search for new techniques. Magnetic equivalent circuit (MEC) and Fourier series analysis (FSA) have been adopted to the FSPMM. However, the former suffers from coarse discretization, and the latter contains complicated mathematical structures. In this paper, the machine equations in the ABC-reference frame and DQ-frame will be extracted, and the electromagnetic performance of a 12/10 FSPMM is evaluated using the electrical equivalent circuit (EEC). The inductance matrix of the machine is the base of this model. Therefore, the method can be used in the other structures of the FSPMM, such as the axial one or the radial with a different number of poles and slots. To verify the correctness of the proposed method, we compare the results. The simulation results, such as electromagnetic torque, self-inductance, mutual inductance, input power, and efficiency of the proposed method, align well with FEA results.
