Radioactivity levels in Sediment Specimens of Tigris Stream in Baghdad governorate, Iraq

Using a gamma-ray spectrometer and aNaI (Tl) scintillation detector, researchers analyzed sediment samples taken from the Tigris River in Baghdad, Iraq, in order to determine the presence of radionuclides such as 238U, 232Th, 40K, and 137Cs. According to the findings, there were 38.42, 21.08, 606.97, and 28.92 bq/kg of 238U, 232Th, and 40K, respectively, as well as 137Cs. For the region that was investigated, the average standards of the radium equal (Raeq), the absorbed dose degree in air (D), the outside plus interior hazard directory (Hex, Hin), the twelve-monthly active dose equal indoor and outdoor (AEDein, AEDEout), and the risk index (I) were as follows: (115.31 Bq/kg, 55.97 nGy/h, 0.31Bq/kg, 0.42 Bq/kg)… According to the findings of this investigation, the radiological hazard index and activity rates found in sediment samples were both significantly lower than the global limit. The radiometric baseline data that were collected for this investigation may prove useful for future epidemiological research and monitoring operations in the area that was investigated.
