Current Trends and Future Perspectives of e-Learning in India

In the past few decades, web-based education or e-Learning has become a popular means of communication not only at an individual level but also at the professional and educational level. It can cater to the broad spectrum of learners with its inherent flexibility and give solutions to many existing problems of the traditional educational systems. The presented work has explored different available eLearning platforms in India and presented a review on them. The challenges in the adaptation of e-Learning are also explored. Critical remarks and possible improvements are suggested. E-learning has enormous benefits to deliver to its users. For example it can provide collaborative learning where learners work together that improves the quality of learning and hence the overall productivity. Further, in collaborative learning, learners not only work together to complete a project but also learn how to work in a team that improves decision-making skills and knowledge retention rate. Likewise, the adaptive features in e-Learning could be disruptive by incorporating AI and ML by providing e-content based on learner's pattern or style to achieve the higher level of Bloom's Taxonomy of learning objectives. E-learning can cater to a large group of learners for uniform and higher levels of learning. It also has some drawbacks for developing countries due to limited sources (infrastructural, demographic barriers, cultural diversity and others).
