Dumb-bell shaped Defected Ground Structures MIMO Antenna for UWB Applications

This work describes a quad-port Ultra Wide Band (UWB) multiple input-multiple output (MIMO) antenna with axial ratio bandwidth that is small and circularly polarised. The planned MIMO system comprises of four identical tulip-shaped radiating components, which are each made up of a slotted partial ground plane with a dumb-bell form and is fed by a 50Ω microstrip line. The elements are aligned orthogonally to achieve high isolation which is 42.61dB. The proposed MIMO covers 3.34-10.70GHz UWB range which gives 7.35 GHz bandwidth. The antenna was designed on a FR4 substrate with a loss tangent of 0.02 and a dimension of 70.7 × 70.7 mm

. Gain 3.40dBi, Envelope Correlation Coefficient (ECC) 0.00025, and return loss 44.67dB are recorded for this MIMO antenna system's diversity performance. Which can be used in all UWB high-speed wireless applications, as well as future smartphones, microwave imaging, and satellite communication.
