Prioritization for time slot allocation and message transmission in TDMA MAC for VANETs

In VANETs, vehicles communicate with infrastructure, RSU and other vehicles for improved safety measures. Safety, non-safety and control messages are exchanged during the communication. Timely delivery of highly important and urgent messages (HIUM) is required for reliable communication. Hence, prioritization is required for guaranteed and timely delivery of the messages. The allocation of time slots for maximizing the delivery of HIUM is the main focus of the proposed approach. In this paper, we have proposed a two-step prioritization algorithm where the vehicles are prioritized based on the priority of the messages at OBU. Based on the message prioritization and vehicle type, the time slots are allocated to the vehicles at RSU. The proposed approach guarantees the timely delivery of the HIUM for reliable communication.
