A Review on Multimodal Biometric Authentication in Healthcare

Biometrics plays a vital role in the authentication process, Biometric authentication can be physical, behavioral and a combination of both. Biometric systems may be unimodal or multimodal. In a unimodal system, a single trait like a fingerprint, iris, palm print is used to identify a user. In a multimodal biometric system, more than one or more traits are combined to authenticate the user, and this overcomes the drawbacks of a unimodal biometric system. This paper provides a brief review of multimodal biometrics based on footings of modalities, types of fusions, and techniques that are implemented in healthcare.
