Cooperative Task Processing for the Internet of Remote Things through Ultra-Dense Satellite Systems

Recent advance in ultra-dense satellite communications provide an alternative solution for coverage extension and backhaul connections of the Internet of Remote Things (IoRT). IoRT devices can offload their tasks to satellite networks for processing, or relay them to the ground data center through satellite communications. However, due to the resource-constraint nature, a single satellite cannot support computation-intensive and complex execution. Therefore, this paper design a cooperative task processing scheme in which multiple satellites can cooperate in a satellite group and simultaneously process the IoRT tasks to improve the computational efficiency and resource utilization of satellite networks. The optimization problem is formulated as a Winner Determination Problem (WDP) with the objective of maximizing the completion delay reduction of all IoRT devices, and a cooperative greedy computing algorithm with a low complexity is proposed as our solution. Numerical studies show that the proposed scheme outperforms benchmark schemes.
