Synthetic Aperture Radar Imaging of Moving Targets for Automotive Applications

Radar image formation of a moving target (MT) is of crucial importance for automotive radar applications because non-stationary objects are the most vulnerable targets around a car. Reconstructing them at their accurate locations using the synthetic aperture radar (SAR) technique would be beneficial due to the high angular resolution that can be achieved with SAR. In this paper, we propose a sub-aperture based algorithm to estimate motion parameters and compensate MTs effects on the received data of a 77-GHz radar system. Moreover, using autofocusing and beamforming methods helps us to improve the radar image quality. Finally, evaluating our sub-region image reconstruction algorithm with simulations of a scene with multiple targets shows promising results.
