Fractional-Order Robust Controller Applied to Nonlinear Dynamical System

Recent researchers have demonstrated the effectiveness of fractional-order calculus and are capable of modelling different phenomena more accurately than integer-order equations. It is identified as a powerful tool for describing the structure of a system with complex dynamics. In this paper, the designing of a fractional-order robust sliding mode controller to obtain better-desired output in line with the given control input to the system is done for magnetic levitation (Maglev) system for monitoring of position. With consideration of mechanical and electrical parameters of the Maglev system, a nonlinear model is determined. Fractional-order sliding mode controller (FOSMC) has been designed to achieve better stability with countering uncertainties. The control performance of the fractional-order proposed robust controller is validated by performing extensive comparative analysis with the other prevalent controllers reported in the literature.
