Development of a Low-Delivery-Rate Triple Syringe Infusion Pump for Biomedical Applications

Micromixing is promisingly becoming more important in many chemical and biological applications. Syringe pump has a considerable impact on the efficiency of microfluidic micromixing devices which are extremely useful for delivering a precise amount of a substance at specific periods. This study proposes the development of a low-cost working prototype of a syringe pump for variable and low delivery rates in the administration of small volumes. The presented multi-channel low-delivery-rate syringe infusion pump employs a lead-screw mechanism driven by stepper motors. There is provision for multiple flow rate controls, safety features, and wireless device control. When used with a 1 ml syringe, the syringe pump is observed to work at various flow rates, demonstrating that the system can be used in medical settings to control the volume and flow rate of chemical fluids, as well as with microfluidic mixing studies in particular and scientific research, the biomedical field in general. The experimental results in the design and manufacture of the mechanical assembly demonstrated the ability to modify the proposed design as needed in the related scientific and industrial area, letting off the dependency on producers from different components of the world.
