Design of a Double Integral Sliding Mode Controller for DC-DC Boost Converters in Applications for Fuel Cells

The paper introduces a nonlinear double integral sliding mode control (DISMC) system for controlling the output voltage of a DC-DC boost converter in proton exchange membrane fuel cell applications (PEMFC). The suggested controller is based on an average model of a DC-DC boost converter and has the objective of tracking the reference output voltage. To completely reduce the steady-state error while achieving the desired control objective, this study considers a sliding surface based on a double integral. The development of candidate Lyapunov functions demonstrates the stability of the whole system while guaranteeing the appropriate monitoring of the state variables. Finally, the proposed DISMC's performance is tested on the MATLAB/Simulink environment under the variations of the reference output voltage. To demonstrate the suggested controller's superiority, its performance is compared to that of a traditional proportional-integral (PI) controller. According to the simulation findings, the suggested DISMC controller outperforms the conventional PI controller in respect of settling time and overshoot.
