Performance Analysis of OTDM using RZ and NRZ at 50 Gbps

In communication system, there has always been a requirement of higher velocity data transmission. For the fiber-optic communication technology, new capacity-enhancing components have been massively developed. Optical time division (OTDM) multiplexing is best among all of the systems for higher bit rate and versatile bandwidth. A series of low-bit optical signals in OTDM share the very same carrier frequency and are combined optically to form a single stream of bits at the high bit rate. The simulation is carried out with an OTDM link of five-channels having 10 Gbps of data rate per channel using the reference non return to zero known as the NRZ and return to zero or the RZ schemes. The model worked over 50 km single-mode fiber ( SMF) and an erbium-doped fiber amplifier (EDFA) with a bit error of .0334 and a quality factor of 1.81 with RZ. The compensation for dispersal can be accomplished using dispersion compensation fibers (DCF). The paper investigates the output of a five-user OTDM over different lengths of single-mode fibers for different bit rates using OptiSystem 16.1 simulation software.
