Three-dimensional Simulation of Hot Gas in Cooling Chamber and Tank of High-Voltage Circuit Breaker for alternative gas

In a general case, due to the axisymmetric structure of a HVCB (High-Voltage Circuit Breaker) interrupter, the models for thermal fluid simulation are created on two-dimensional planar. Most of short-circuit interrupting simulation on a high-voltage interrupter are based on 2D axisymmetrical modelling method. However, when the hot gas discharging downstream into the cooling chamber and tank, the 2D axisymmetrical simulation method will not be available for research, because the simple 2D axisymmetrical modelling method cannot represent the geometry of cooling chamber and tank accurately. In this paper, a full three-dimensional modelling and simulation method is introduced, in which the cooling chamber and tank are modelled in detail with a three-dimensional method. The inlet conditions of this method are the data acquired in prior 2D interrupter simulation, thus actually the 2D interrupter simulation and 3D cooling chamber and tank simulation are not carried out simultaneously. After the 3D simulation, the dynamic state in full simulation domain, such as temperature distribution can be achieved in the post-processing. Both of 2D and 3D simulation part are implemented by Ansys CFX.
