Development of the Testing Automation System for verifying interoperability of Digital Substation

Digital substation is based on IEC 61850 standard. Communication failures due to interoperability are occurring due to some unclear parts not secured within IEC 61850 standard. This problem is because the method of interpreting communication messages and the method of processing messages are different in the process of exchanging information between facilities implemented in IEC 61850. Digital substation in Korea is a multi-vendor-based system built using various manufacturers' devices. As the number of devices implemented by IEC 61850 continues to increase and software is updated, the need for interoperability verification is increasing. This paper describes development of the testing automation system for verifying interoperability of digital substation. The testing automation system is a system that can verify compatibility problems occurring in the field and automatically perform the test process.
