RSETR: Route Stability Based Energy and Traffic Aware Reactive Routing Protocol for Mobile Ad hoc Network

Mobile ad hoc network is the collection of wireless communicating devices and these nodes are also work as a router. There is no central system to manage the devices in the network and its functionality too. Therefore, the high traffic load on links and less energy of nodes are often affecting the stability of path in consequences of which the performance of network degrades. If the path is not stable during the communication, it may be responsible for the loss of data packets and congestion in the mobile ad hoc communication networks. Therefore, this paper proposed a link stability model (LSM) which is based on node energy and traffic on the link. Further, we integrate the link stability model with the reactive routing approach and propose a novel Route Stability based Energy and Traffic aware Reactive (RSETR) routing protocol for Mobile Ad hoc Networks seeking a stable route for data transmission in congestion-free environment. The performance of the proposed routing protocol, Route Stability based Energy and Traffic aware Reactive is evaluated considering some major performance metrics which include average route lifetime, throughput, packet delivery fraction and normalized routing load. The study is based on simulation runs adopting a CBR traffic pattern taking care of node failure scenarios. We use the NS2 platform to implementation and evaluation of our proposed protocol.
