Preliminary Study on Bistatic RCS of Measured Targets for Automatic Target Recognition

As a basic attribute of target, radar cross section (RCS) is an important recognition source in the field of automatic target recognition (ATR) in the low-resolution radars. The correct understanding of target characteristics is the basis of target recognition. In this paper, the RCS characteristics of general aviation aircraft and civil aviation aircraft are statistically analyzed by using the measured data collected by a multistatic passive radar. The analysis results show that aircrafts with different sizes and shapes have obvious differences in RCS characteristics, indicating that their statistical characteristics can be used for ATR. Results obtained in this paper can provide beneficial guidance for the study of target recognition in passive radars.
