Technology A Sustainable Disrupter for Indian Unorganised Retail

Retail scenario in India is very different from rest of the world, where ‘Unorganized Retail’ is still dominating the retail businesses with 77% market share (Invest India, 2021). The Kirana stores dominates the unorganized retailer segment with high penetration all over the country. With advent of technology and recent pandemic situations these retailers faced turbulent times, nonetheless after initial downfall most of them bounce back. In these difficult times the retailers have realized the value and importance of devising strategies for adopting technology to interact and to reach customers. Local stores now empowered by technology can serve their consumers better than before. Adoption of technologies provided new possibilities to these stores enabling them to expand their customer base and product assortment. The present case explored different techniques used by local retailers to move their businesses online.
